- JORDAN - October 2007

Sanding the rails in the Amman suburbs.

Southbound No. 82 has just a few kilometres left to run to reach Quartana.

No. 71 the Forges 2-8-2 on the steady climb out of Amman.

Threading up through the interminable Amman suburbs.

Watching trains in Jordan?

Deserted station in the desert for a stopping train to nowhere.

The Pacific No. 82 leaves it's oily pall beside the pristine Almakarabin Mosque, Amman.

No. 82 slipping it's way along little used greasy rails - the track often doubling up as Amman city garbage dump.

No. 82 sullies purity of the desert, as she trundles southwards towards Quartana.

And finally - what do you do in Jordan when your loco needs water, and the nearest access point for the tanker is the motorway?
Just go ahead and block that road driver, we'll only be a minute or two - and those at the front of the traffic jam had a grandstand view!
